Regardless of your credit, you should always be on the lookout for ways to save money. One of the best ways is to take advantage of deals, coupons, and special offers whenever you eat out. Here at Fig, we notice a lot of our borrowers are eating at the same places we do every day. Here are five different ways get EXTRA food and save money at some of our favorite restaurants.
McDonald’s has been my guilty pleasure ever since I was 2 years old. But as it turns out, McDonald’s is one of the best places to get great deals on food. You can download the free McDonald’s app to access a half dozen or more coupons a day. Even though you’re technically limited to only one coupon per order, most places will let you break up your orders into two or more different orders to use more than one coupon in one visit.
This month, my favorite deal has been the buy one sandwich, get one free deal, which I’ve used to get 2x $5 sandwiches for the price of one. Just yesterday, I got 2x Big Macs for $4… I’ll take delicious lunch for $4 any day! But, you can only get this deal through the app! Other times, though, I’ve gotten my hands on free nuggets, free fries, free drinks, and much much more.
In addition, many McDonald’s will have a feedback offer on the receipt. Where I live, if you give feedback online and write down the code on your receipt, you can get a buy-one-get-one-free deal on a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or an Egg McMuffin.
Finally, many different McDonald’s will have national or local promotions. Recently, McDonalds has been offering their cokes at only $1 for even the largest sizes all over the country, and my McDonald’s has new promotions every week.
Make the most of your trip to the golden arches!
2: Panda Express
Our founder Jeff is obsessed with Panda. We joke that if he didn’t help start Fig, he’d be running a Panda Express and would be the happiest man on the planet. As part of Fig’s weekly trip to Panda Express, we always take advantage of ways to get more food for less money.
Panda Express receipts usually have a request for feedback on the top. This directs you to a website where you take a short survey, and at the end you get a code giving you a free entree item the next time you go. Even though you have to do the survey less than two days after you visit, it’s a entire extra helping of orange chicken for only 2 minutes of hassle - totally worth it. Insider tip: sometimes you are only able to use this coupon at the store listed on your reciept. If you frequent two different Panda Express restaurants, be sure to keep reciepts from both on hand! Mostly because the amount of food you get is unbelieveable. Jeff’s favorite order -- half fried rice and half mixed vegetables, orange chicken, broccoli + beef and teriyaki chicken-- has 2 full servings of vegetables, beef and half a chicken for $8!
3: Church’s Chicken
If you don’t like fried chicken, you’re either a vegetarian or on the menu - never the less Church’s is still a great place to satisfy your cravings. Like McDonald’s, Church’s has its own app that will give you access to coupons and deals for huge savings. I’d take the opportunity to grab a 3 piece legs & thighs w/ biscuit (today’s deal) for $2.49 any day.
While it usually has fewer deals, they’re often better than what you’ll get at McDonald’s and can be used for much bigger, family-size meals, like a 20 piece bucket. If you’re looking for a $15 feast for a family of 4, look no further than Church’s app!
While Whataburger is also one of our favorite places to eat, unfortunately it doesn’t have as many opportunities to save money as some of the other places we’ve recommended. Even so, the Whataburger app lets you get free food after you go there five times, so if you’re a serial burger addict, it’s just the thing.
If you’re looking to eat a little healthier, Subway has a deal every day on a different type of sandwich depending on the day of the week. Six-inch subs are $3.50 and footlongs are $6, which is a big savings, especially for the hot sandwiches. Go on a monday for the sweet onion chicken teriyaki or on sunday for a hot and messy meatball sub.
